Web Design for LA Small Businesses That Have Outgrown DIY

You're busy. You're good at what you do. Your clients know it. Your referrals know it. Your bank account, most of the time, knows it. But when someone hears about you and pulls out their phone to look you up, what they find doesn't match what they heard.
Maybe it's the Instagram grid you've been using as a makeshift portfolio. Maybe it's the Squarespace site you set up at 11pm three years ago and never touched again. Maybe it's nothing, just a Google Business listing with a stock photo and no website at all. Whatever it is, it's not doing your work justice. And it's costing you clients you'll never know you lost.
That gap between the quality of your work and the quality of your web presence is the credibility gap. Every day it stays open, it works against you. We close it.
Does this look like you?

You didn't build your business using a boring template.

Don't settle for a website that was.

Our Small Business Website Design Process

1. Pick your project & plan.

Choose the tier that fits your business: Microsite, Website, or Custom. Not sure which one? Fill out the intake form anyway and we'll tell you exactly where you land. There's no wrong starting point.

2. Fill out your form

Our Discovery Intake Form covers everything we need to start, your business, your goals, your customers, your vibe. No call. No screen share. Just a focused form that takes about 20 minutes and gives us everything a two-hour kickoff meeting never quite does.

3. We build. you review.

Backpack Jack designs, writes, and develops your site from scratch. When it's ready, you review it and submit your feedback through our Edit Request Form, one consolidated list, no back-and-forth. We implement it and send you back a site that sounds and looks like your business.

4. You launch. We stay.

After launch, your monthly retainer covers everything, hosting, infrastructure, edit credits, and performance reporting. We don't disappear. We're here every month, keeping your site current and your presence healthy.

Ready to stop losing clients to a bad first impression?

No contracts. No calls. No hourly billing. Just a site that works, and a studio that sticks around.

Built by people who have done this before

Backpack Jack is a small, local studio run by Wyatt Megla, a designer who's been building things since he was 9 years old and hasn't stopped since.

Over the past decade, Wyatt led design at Brighter Vision, helped consolidate it through acquisition into EverCommerce, was part of the team that took EverCommerce public on the NASDAQ, and played a central role in the strategic sale of the EverConnect division to Ignite Visibility, the deal that made them the largest privately held marketing agency in the country.

After years of building for companies at every scale, he's now building for the ones that deserve it most: small businesses whose owners are excellent at what they do and done dealing with their website.

That's the whole pitch. No agency overhead. No junior designer handling your project. Just someone who's done this at every level, now doing it for you.

Small Business Web Design FAQs

No calls? How does a website project work without meetings?

Everything runs through two forms: the Discovery Intake Form at the start of the project, and the Edit Request Form for changes after launch. You tell us what you need in writing, we build it, you review it in writing, we refine it. Nothing gets lost in a phone call, nothing gets misunderstood, and neither of us has to block off 45 minutes for a meeting that could have been a form. Clients who are skeptical of async work are usually converted by the end of the first project.

What if I don't love what you build?

That's what the edit rounds are for. Microsite clients get two pre-launch rounds, Website clients get three, and Custom clients get six. Our intake form is thorough enough that major surprises are rare, but if something isn't right, we fix it. What we don't offer is a refund after work has begun. The setup fee covers the build, and once we've confirmed your intake form and started the work, that commitment stands on both sides.

Is there a long-term contract?

No. Your monthly retainer is month-to-month after launch. We keep your business by doing good work, not by locking you into a contract. The setup fee is the only upfront commitment. After that, you're free to stay because you want to, not because you have to.

How long does it take to launch?

Most clients are launched within four weeks of submitting their intake form. The timeline is mostly determined by how quickly you turn around feedback, and our current client load. We don't let builds sit on our end and are very communicative about blocks.

What areas around Los Angeles do you serve?

Backpack Jack focuses on North Hollywood, Santa Monica, Burbank, Glendale, and nearby LA communities.

Do you work with creative service businesses?

Yes. Backpack Jack is built for creative service providers, local studios, and independent businesses that need their website to explain their work clearly and build trust quickly.

What's included in monthly website management?

Hosting, SSL, Webflow infrastructure management, and your monthly edit credits (fulfilled within five business days). Everything your site needs to stay healthy, current, and working, without you touching a thing.

Why do you build small business websites in Webflow?

WordPress is the industry default because it's free and familiar, not because it's better. It carries real tradeoffs: plugin bloat, security vulnerabilities, a design ceiling that shows at the SMB price point, and a codebase that becomes a liability over time. Webflow gives us full design fidelity, a CMS you can actually edit without breaking anything, and cleaner code under the hood. For the kind of work we do, it's the right platform. Full stop.

Do you offer payment plans?

The setup fee is due upfront before work begins; that's what confirms your project slot and funds the build. There's no installment plan for the setup fee itself. That said, the monthly retainer starts after launch, and annual billing saves 20% for clients who want to lock in the lower rate.

Do you offer small business web design in Los Angeles?

Yes. Backpack Jack works with LA-area small businesses and creative service providers that need clearer, better-managed websites.

Can you redesign my existing small business website?

Yes. If your current site feels outdated, hard to update, or no longer reflects the quality of your work, we can rebuild it into something cleaner and easier to manage.

How do I get started?

Fill out the form below. We review every submission and respond within five business days with a tier recommendation and clear next steps. There's no sales call, just a straight answer about whether we're a fit and what happens from there.

If your website isn't pulling its weight, that ends here.

No calls. No hourly billing. No long-term contracts. A focused, async process, a site built to last, and a studio that sticks around after launch. If that sounds like what you've been looking for, let's find out if we're a fit.
